Right so its April already, who knew?!

Mothers day was this Sunday just gone, did my best to help the kids to spoil my wife, think it went off pretty well as the pic above goes to demonstrate. Yummy Cadburys cripsy cakes with mini eggs, just perfect really and well received by all (yes I know, what a surprise!). Only took a few minutes out to take this photo, just made sure I used natural light, sat the crispy on my in-laws kitchen worktop but added in some extra light with my silver reflector. Nothing too special but 5 mins and thats another picture done.

Same thing today, took a picture of the textured cover on the back of my phone and then found that the challenge on the ODC challenge group is gadgets! How perfect is that? Used my close up filters for this one though, +4 Diopter filter. Great and cheap alternative to a macro lens, although no substitute in the long run as its got such a shallow depth of field.

Been listening to the new Foo Fighters album today, pure class start to finish, now starting to wish i'd got tickets for their gig at the MK Bowl after all. Some great tracks on the album though, Burning Bridges, Rope, White Limo, all very good but surprisingly theres not one track that id skip if i was listening to it and its not often i say that about an album.

My little girls birthday this week so plenty to look forward to, even if im not very organised for it!

211/365 Peace Pagoda

My first photo added to the blog, thought id better make it a good one!

The weather was quite changeable today but come lunch time there was some nice cloud and a blue sky but it was very breezy. I immediately thought of my ND110 filter which drops 10 exposures of light, so its perfect for long exposures during the day. Having seen numerous examples on the internet before i knew i should be able to capture some movement in the clouds whilst keeping the "subject" still.

So I took along my tripod, setup and focussed the shot and took a "reading" of the light. Then I put the ND110 filter on the front of the lens, switched to manual focus and full manual mode on the camera. Finally I had a look on my iphone and using the "Longtime exposure calculator" i put in the light reading the camera told me, added the 10 stops and it gave me the right exposure (30secs) and then I took the shot with my remote release trigger.

A little post processing in Photoshop CS5 (levels and a little sharpening) and you have todays 365 photo! Enjoy

And in the Beginning there was......

Nothing, save for a flat disc supported by four elephants riding on the back of a turtle the size of a planet, slowly drifting through space. - Terry Pratchett.

Well its probably a paraphrase rather than a quote but credit where credits due and all that. So this is the start of my blog, primarily about photography but entirely likely to meander wildly as my mind wanders throughout the day. I dont know now whether ill update this daily, weekly or maybe ever again (if my trawl of possible blog names was anything to go by then most people make one, post once or twice and it never sees the light of day again).

I'm 31 right now, living in Milton Keynes in the UK. I've been married for 7 years to my lovely wife Louise and have 3 wonderful children. I think I started this blog as a sideline to my 365 project (something which I dont have time for everyday, so how on earth I think ill have time for this is beyond me!) but we will have to wait and see.

I hope, in time, to write about my photographs, where i take them, why i take them and maybe even how i take them. I know theres lots of blogs and sites about how to take shots and take nothing away from those people but sometimes, they are so hard to read and I hope that I might be able to do better. Only time will tell i guess!

So for now, a brief list of my interests and hobbies
  • Photography ( I know, like reallllly? LOL)
  • Films (Action, Adventure, Sci Fi, Comedy)
  • Reading (Terry Pratchett and Dean Koontz being my two favourite authors)
  • Computer games (a self confessed GuildWars addict, too many other games to mention on PC and PS3)
  • IT
I will tag this post with the word geek, just to save some people the time of commenting :o)

Anyone still reading? Wow! I am surprised LOL Well thats it for my first post, lets hope the next ones more interesting!
